we want towalk it with you.
What you get, what you don't, how it's built and which path fits you.
// THE WOOD SYSTEM
answers for
your project.
Organised by decision: the kit, which path you choose, building, ordering, workshops and professional.
01What is WOODKIT.PRO?
The kit to build your own hollow wooden surfboard: the frame cut by laser and CNC router and Paulownia prepared for each part. You get the parts; you make the board.
See how it's built →02What arrives in the box?
It depends on the path you choose:
- Single: Paulownia cut to size for deck, bottom and rails.
- Laser cutting: the frame cut to your design (you can add Single).
- Signature: the wood plus the cut frame of the shaper's model, and the build guide.
03Do I receive a finished board?
No. You receive the material and the structure to build it. You finish the board.
04What isn't included, and what else do I need?
No resins, fibreglass, adhesives, consumables or tools, unless the product page says otherwise. This is what else you need, all easy to find locally:
- Build: methacrylate structural adhesive, clamps or weights, a rocker table, a shaping stand, sandpaper (80, 120 and 240 grit) and a small block plane for the rails.
- Glassing: epoxy laminating resin and hardener, 4 oz fibreglass cloth (lighter, more wood showing) or 6 oz (more ding resistance), squeegee, brushes, mixing cups, gloves and a mask.
- Hardware: fin boxes to match your model’s setup, a leash plug, a breather valve and the fins of your choice.
Never laminated before? Take it to a local glasser or do it yourself with our build support.
05Why Paulownia?
It's a very light, stable wood that makes a strong hollow board possible. Ours grows in Europe, has a density of 260-280 kg/m³ and is sized part by part for its role.
The wood →06Is it heavier than foam? Does it float the same?
It weighs a little more than a foam board of the same size, but it floats practically the same: volume is what floats, and every extra kilo is offset by one litre. What you do feel in the water is momentum: more rail, more glide and more drive.
Estimate your board's weight → Flotation and momentum, in depth →07What is the frame made of, and why does the cut matter?
Stringer and ribs in 5 mm multi-layer plywood, cut by laser and CNC router from the shaper's plan. In a hollow board the frame sets the rocker, the thickness and the bottom contours: what the machine cuts is what you surf, and a cutting error can't be sanded out.
See why → Board anatomy →01What's the difference between Single, Laser cutting and Signature?
- Single: just the wood, for anyone with their own design and method.
- Laser cutting: you send your design and receive the frame cut to it.
- Signature: a shaper's finished model, with the structure solved.
02It's my first board, which one?
Signature. You build a proven model and design nothing: assemble, shape and finish.
See Signature →03Which models are there?
Signature brings together models by named shapers, each with its dimensions and volume on the product page. The collection grows with every shaper who joins.
See Signature →04Can I build my own design?
Yes. If your design is ready, order the laser-cut frame and add the wood with Single.
Request a quote →05Is it a real, surfable board?
Yes. It's not decoration: it's a hollow wooden surfboard, ready for the water once properly finished and glassed.
Wooden surfboards →01Do I need to be a shaper?
No. With Signature the design and the structure arrive solved. You need time, care and a willingness to work with your hands.
02What exactly do I do?
You assemble the frame, close the bottom and the deck, work the rails, shape, sand, glass and finish the board.
See the process step by step →03How much time do I need?
It depends on the model and the finish you want. Hands-on work is concentrated in a few days; the rest of the calendar is curing, while the board rests. It's not an afternoon: it's a real build project.
04Which tools do I need?
Two essentials: a table with the board's curve (rocker table) and work stands (shaping stand). Plus basic shop tools for clamping and sanding, and protection for working with resin.
No rocker table or shaping stand? Message us before you start and we'll sort it out for your model.
05What if I get stuck or make a mistake?
Write before you carry on. Say which step you're on and send a photo: that shows what can be fixed and how to continue.
Write on WhatsApp →06Can I build with guidance?
Yes, with the same kit and in several ways: Build Sessions (one-to-one sessions with your model's shaper for the steps that matter), a group workshop (next dates in preparation) or a shaper from the network builds it for you.
See the ways to build →01Where do you ship?
To Europe and the United States, and elsewhere when transport is viable. Cost depends on format, quantity and destination.
Shipping & lead times →02Can I group several kits?
Yes, when the dimensions allow it. Grouping usually improves the shipping cost per kit considerably.
03Does the price include import taxes?
No, unless expressly stated. Duties, customs clearance and destination taxes are the buyer's responsibility.
04What if the parcel arrives damaged?
Before throwing anything away, photograph the packaging, the label and the affected parts, and write within the first 24 hours.
Report an issue →05Can I return it?
The legal warranty and right of return apply. Orders made to your own design, such as laser cutting, are excluded from the right of withdrawal.
Returns and warranty →01Are there open workshops?
Not right now. They are in preparation and will be announced with date, venue, price and what each one includes.
Notify me →02What is a WOODKIT workshop?
Building your board with guidance, in a prepared space, with tools, over a few days and alongside other people.
03I have a workshop or a school, can I host one?
Yes, that path is open: workshops, surf schools, clubs and accommodation can become WOODKIT Hubs.
Become a Hub →04Can it be given as a gift?
Once there are open dates, yes. In the meantime a kit makes a gift too: it's a whole project, not an object.
01I have a workshop and want to buy wood. How?
With Single: Paulownia cut to size for deck, bottom and rails. For volume or special formats, tell us about the project.
See .PRO →02Do you cut parts to my design?
Yes. You send your spec sheet and files and receive the structural parts cut with CO₂ laser and CNC router. One board or small series.
Request a quote →03I'm a shaper, can I publish my models?
Yes, that's exactly what Signature is: models by named shapers for others to build, with credit on every product page and agreed terms.
Propose my models →04I have a shop, can I sell kits?
Share your case and you'll get a proposal.
Share my case →05How do I set up a professional order?
Say what you need, how many units, where it goes and by when. That defines production, packaging, transport and price.
